Inlay

Inlay is the art of creating designs by making  depression on a surface mostly of wood or stone and filling it with other pieces of materials like stone, wood, metal, MOP etc. Inlay includes the art of pietre dure, which means literally "Hard stones".  Basically this is marquetry in stone. This is also called 'Parchin kari in South Asia, is an art-historical term for the technique of using cut and fitted, highly-polished colored stones to create what images in stone. It is considered a decorative art, which takes considerable time to master.
