Overlay

Gem overlay is pasting or superimposing of gemstones on a plane surface. The surface can be wood, stone, tile, ceramic, metal, leather, wall etc.  Gem overlaying is done by using adhesives and also by using white cement on stones passed on gauge mash.

Process:

In  Gem over lay thin slices of gems are cut and polished. Then they are pasted on any plane surface. In the following photo we can see malachite rough which is precured from Congo in Africa. It is cut in this slices which are polished and pasted on a ceramic tile.

In the following photo we can see Lapis rough which is imported from Afghanistan. It is cut in this slices which are polished and pasted on a marble slab..

In these photos we see how Tiger eye is set as overlay. First rough Tigers eye  is imported from South Africa.

Next the pieces of Tiger’s Eye are buffed and those areas which have good sheen are selected.

Then slices of Tiger’s Eye are polished and pasted on a marble tile.
